CUSTOMER TIPS FOR BEFORE AND AFTER COLOURING
Before Colouring Your Hair
- Know your hair length, texture and history. Have you box dyed or bleached it before? The more information you give us when making your booking - and at your booking - the better your hair will turn out. Having all the details makes our hair stylist confident they can achieve your Perfekt hair.
- Bring in pictures of what you are wanting! Reference photos are the best way to show your stylist exactly what you want.
- Shampoo your hair 24-48 hours before coming in for lightening or colouring. We want a natural oil barrier on your scalp to protect it -but not dirty hair.
- Try to avoid using hair products the day of your appointment, and avoid heat styling. Having your hair in its natural state means we can best transform it into what you are after.
After Colouring Your Hair
- Wait up to 72 hours before shampooing after colouring. When colouring for lightening your locks the hair cuticle is opened, and washing too soon can lead to the colour being washed out very quickly. Give the pigment time to soak into the hair cuticle.
- Know your hair type and what it needs. Don’t use shampoo and conditioners for thick hair if your hair is thin and vice versa!
- Try organic products. The less chemical ingredients that go through your hair, the longer your colour will last!
- Use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Sulphates are what make shampoos foam up - but they also strip the natural oils and moisture from your hair. This will cause your colour to go down the drain faster!
- Ask us about one of our colour conditioners. After getting a vibrant colour, a good way to maintain it is to have the same dye mixed into your conditioner. This will revitalise your colour every time you wash your hair.
- Turn down the water temp when shampooing. Hot water opens the cuticle which can also lead to loss of colour, try to go for a cooler temperature if you can to maintain even tone and long lasting colour.
- Don’t wash your hair every day - on off days try dry shampoo
- Use heat protectant when styling your hair with hot tools.
- Avoid chlorine! Chlorine is a bleaching agent and can change the hair colour drastically - if you do swim in chlorine make sure to wash your hair afterwards to strip any of the leftover chemical presence.
